The Italian chestnut industry looks positively at the new 2016 season. The summer has not been as dry as usual and in most areas the attacks of gall wasp are under control. Therefore the crop will be good in terms of quantity.

The season will as usual start with the large Euro-Japanese chestnuts grown in Piemonte at the mid of September. The Teano chestnuts from Campania will follow around September 20th and by the beginning of October the volumes of Italian chestnuts will be in full swing.

As usual October will be the best period to promote: the weather will be cooler and the consumers will be looking forward to Halloween, which will extend to Bonfire Night in UK, to have some nice roasted chestnuts to share with family and friends.
