2018 will be a good year in terms of available crop and quality. The better growers are keeping the chestnut gall wasp under control and in the majority of the growing regions the crop will be good. In detail:

  • CUNEO: good crop both for the early hybrids and the normal chestnuts
  • SANTERNO (Bologna): good crop
  • TUSCANY: good crop
  • VITERBO (Central Italy): short crop for chestnuts, good crop for marrons
  • AVELLINO and SALERNO (Southern Italy): generally good, better in the areas where the chestnut gall wasp has been fought

The season will start 7-10th September with the first hybrids (very large sizes peaking around count 50) and then move on to the traditional European chestnuts after 2-3 weeks.
